While some fans may have already noticed this, it seems many others looking forward to Hogwarts Legacy were unaware that ghosts would be in the game. However, there is a brief moment during the Hogwarts Legacy reveal trailer when fans can see a ghost. The ghost appears during the Dining Hall scene, seemingly near the Gryffindor table. Speculation points to the ghost being none other than Nearly Headless Nick, who is one of the most recognizable ghosts from the Harry Potter books and films.

It’s possible that this ghost is someone completely different, however. There are a variety of other ghosts that prowl Hogwarts throughout the Harry Potter franchise besides Nearly Headless Nick, including the mischievous poltergeist Peeves and the Bloody Baron. But while there’s a decent chance these ghosts will make an appearance in Hogwarts Legacy, one of the famous Harry Potter ghosts will definitely not be included in the game.

The ghost Moaning Myrtle plays a central role in the Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets book and makes appearances elsewhere in the series as well. Moaning Myrtle was killed by a basilisk when the Chamber of the Secrets was forced opened by Tom Riddle, aka Lord Voldemort. Moaning Myrtle died in the year 1943, and since Hogwarts Legacy is set in the late 1800s, she wasn’t even born yet, let alone a ghost.

The Hogwarts Legacy developers are looking to stick to established Harry Potter canon and appear to be paying close attention to these details. While some Hogwarts Legacy promotional material featured the Whomping Willow, the developers are aware of that inconsistency and the tree won’t be in the actual game. It’s also been confirmed that the Shrieking Shack won’t be featured in Hogwarts Legacy either, as it also didn’t exist during the time the game takes place.

In the meantime, Hogwarts Legacy fans may be hungry for another trailer or a gameplay reveal, but they will have to wait a little longer. They can keep analyzing the existing trailer and key art in the meantime, as there may be more clues waiting, like this ghost or Hogwarts Legacy’s giant spider.

Hogwarts Legacy will launch in 2022 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
