Taking place between The Fate of the Furious and the upcoming F9, Hobbs & Shaw stars the antagonist-turned supporting characters Luke Hobbs and Deckard Shaw from the main series. Played by Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Jason Statham respectively, the unlikely Fast & Furious duo managed to prevail in their 2019 adventure and teased the start of another film in the future. Thanks to positive reception and success at the box office, a follow-up sequel is now officially confirmed.

Dwayne Johnson himself confirmed the news during an Instagram Q&A segment earlier this week. He stated no one has been brought on yet, but expressed optimism since ideas are currently being brainstormed. The Rock further elaborated, “(We) just gotta figure out the creative right now, and the direction we’re going to go.”

This announcement comes at the perfect time to fill a void left by current events. Due to the coronavirus, F9’s release date was pushed back from its April 10, 2020 release to April 2, 2021. Despite the delay, fans should be delighted to hear that multiple Fast & Furious projects are in development. Considering the plot twists in the next few films, the whole story might only make sense after watching the Hobbs & Shaw sequel.
